Office of the Inspector General

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) is responsible for the integrity of approximately $14 billion budgeted for the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS), Arizona's Medicaid program. The OIG is also responsible for handling reports of fraud, waste, and abuse of the AHCCCS program.


The mission of the AHCCCS Office of Inspector General is to Prevent, Detect, and Recover Improper Payments due to Fraud, Waste, and Abuse.

Definition of Fraud

Fraud is defined by Federal law (42 CFR 455.2) as "an intentional deception or misrepresentation made by a person with the knowledge that the deception could result in some unauthorized benefit to himself or some other person. It includes any act that constitutes fraud under applicable Federal or State law."
