Health Information Exchange (HIE)

Health Information Exchange (HIE) connects the electronic health record (EHR) systems of providers and clinicians allowing them to securely share patient information and better coordinate care. Health Current, Arizona’s health information exchange, connects more than 500 Arizona organizations, including first responders, hospitals, labs, and providers of community behavioral health, physical health, post-acute care, and hospice providers.

    In Arizona, Medicaid Health Plans and providers use Health Current, a health information exchange organization (HIO) to securely share patient information.

    A: Healthcare clinicians have always been able to provide better care when they have more complete information on their patients. More complete patient information and better coordinated care is more important than ever today. Health Current assembles patient health information from multiple health care providers to create a more complete longitudinal patient record.

  • Q3: Does it cost anything for me or my family to have my information at Health Current?

    A: No, there are no fees for patients to have their health information at Health Current.

  • Q4: Would I be told if my health information is in the Health Information Exchange at Health Current?

    A: Yes Health Current, Arizona’s health information exchange (HIE), makes patients’ health information electronically available to its participants. State and federal laws gives patients certain rights and protections concerning this information.

    Health care providers who actively participate with Health Current are required to distribute a notice to patients, called the Notice of Health Information Practices.
