Policy

The treatment of an inheritance depends on what the inheritance is used for:

If the inheritance is...

Then the treatment is...

Cash

·         ALTCS

·         SSI-MAO

·         MSP

Counted as unearned income.

Exception:

Any part of the inheritance that will be used to pay for the deceased person’s burial expenses and outstanding debts is excluded.

·         Pregnant Woman

·         Child

·         KidsCare

·         Written statement from the executor of the estate;

·         Collateral contact with the executor of the estate; or

·         Copy of the check;

·         A court order closing the estate;

·         A copy of the will; or

Burial expenses and outstanding debts

·         Bills;

·         Receipts; or

·         Collateral contact with the service provider or billing agency.
