November 16, 2012 On November 1, 2012, AHCCCS reopened enrollment in the KidsCare II program and all applications are being considered for eligibility. Eligibility requirements for KidsCare II remain the same. Additionally, children on the wait list that was started Sept 7, are being automatically enrolled into the program if they meet the eligibility requirements for KidsCare II and do NOT need to reapply at this time. AHCCCS will continue to consider all applications for KidsCare II until the program reaches maximum enrollment based on available funding. More information about the KidsCare II program is available on the link below or call the toll free hotline (operated by a Community Partnership) at: 1-800-377-3536.
As of August 17, 2012, there were 18,773 children approved for the KidsCare II program. Based on recent application and approval rates, AHCCCS anticipates the program will reach its funding capacity of 25,000 children sometime the week of September 3, 2012. At that time, the KidsCare II program will be frozen until further space becomes available. All applications will continue to be reviewed for Medicaid first and if it appears the applicant may be eligible for KidsCare or KidsCare II, the application will be placed on the wait list. Should additional space become available, the KidsCare Office will contact the applicant’s household. For more information about the program call the toll free hotline (operated by a Community Partnership) at 1-800-377-3536.

Thurs March 1, 2012 Beginning April 1, 2012, AHCCCS Care members in Maricopa and Pima counties will be charged a $2 co-pay each way for medically necessary taxi rides for services such as going to and from your doctor or the pharmacy. For example, if the taxi takes a member from their home to the doctor, they will be charged $2.00 for that ride. If a taxi is called back to pick the member up at the doctor’s office to take them to the pharmacy, they will be charged $2.00 for that ride. If that taxi does not wait for the member at the pharmacy and a taxi is called to take them back home, they will be charged another $2.00 for that ride. So the total co-pay in this example will be $6.00.
AHCCCS Care is for people who are: 1) not pregnant, 2) not 65 or over or 3) not determined disabled, or 4) do not have an eligible deprived child living with them and are not eligible for any other program. Tue, December 2, 2011 Beginning December 15, 2011, we will be adding photos to our online verification tool that providers use to verify a member’s eligibility. This new feature is one of many efforts by AHCCCS to help protect members and prevent fraud. For all AHCCCS members who have an Arizona driver’s license or a State issued Identification (ID) card, AHCCCS will get their picture from the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division (MVD). When providers use the online member verification tool and enter a member’s social security number, the member’s picture, if available from MVD, will be shown on the verification screen along with other AHCCCS coverage information. The picture will help providers to quickly confirm the member’s identity.

Thurs Feb 17, 2011 AHCCCS covers 1.35 million Arizonans through contracted Health Plans. AHCCCS Health Plans receive thousands of requests for services requiring prior authorization on a daily basis. Federal law requires that all denials of services requiring prior authorization be sent in writing since the member has the right to appeal the notification. There is no similar requirement for written notice of approvals of a service since there is no need for an appeal in that instance.
Accordingly, to increase efficiencies and maintain costs, approvals for procedures requiring prior authorization are communicated to members by phone. These phone notifications are documented in internal records.
