Arizona State Medicaid Advisory Committee (SMAC)

The State Medicaid Advisory Committee (SMAC) reviews and advises the Medicaid agency on the operations, programs, and planning for Arizona's Medicaid program. Provided are the following:

Mission and Purpose

The SMAC advises the Director of AHCCCS on policy, operations and administrative issues of the Medicaid program, including issues of concern to the community.


The SMAC operates in accordance with 42 CFR 431.12 (Code of Federal Regulations) and the State Medicaid Plan.


The bylaws for the SMAC were created in September 1992 and are reviewed annually, or on an as needed basis.

Meeting Dates

The State Medicaid Advisory Committee (SMAC) meets quarterly and the AHCCCS Director chairs the meeting. SMAC meetings are open to the public and every meeting has an open discussion period after the final agenda item has been addressed. Beginning 2011, meeting handouts will be available by clicking on the meeting date below.

Membership – 3 New Vacant Positions New

AHCCCS is accepting nominations to fill three new positions - two of the positions are designated for representatives of AHCCCS recipients, family members of an AHCCCS recipient, or a community-based organization and one position is designated to represent a provider or professional organization.

Nominations can be submitted by completing and submitting the attached Nomination Form. The nomination process will be open for 60 days through May 18, 2015.
