Return to Categories
AHCCCS offers health insurance for eligible children (under 19 years old). For those who qualify, there are no monthly premiums.
Who Can Receive Services
The applicant may qualify for this program if the applicant:
- Is an Arizona resident
- Is an United States citizen or a qualified immigrant (If the child is not a U.S. citizen or qualified immigrant, the child may still be eligible for
emergency services.)
- Has a Social Security number or applies for one
- Is under the income limit
- All of the child's income and a portion of the parents' or spouse's
income is counted. (see example below)
Income Limits
This chart shows how much money a person can receive each month before taxes
(gross monthly income) and other deductions are subtracted.
It is important to know that if someone is working, AHCCCS may subtract an amount for work expenses and child care.

Income limits change every April 1.
Example:
- The child is 3 years old and lives with Mom and 2 brothers who are ages 7 and 9. Mom is responsible for herself and her 3 children.
- The child receives $200.00 in Social Security each month. The Mom works part time and makes $700.00 a month before taxes and other deductions.
To calculate the child's income limit, the following steps are used:
$700.00 Mom's gross monthly income
- 90.00 Standard deduction (given to working
people)
$610.00 Mom's monthly income
Divided by 4 (number of people Mom is responsible
for)
$152.50 portion of Mom's income
+200.00 Child's income
$352.50 Child's total income
Compare $352.50 to the income limit table. The child is under the income limit of $776.00.
KidsCare
If the child's income is too high for AHCCCS Health Insurance, the child may qualify for KidsCare at a low monthly
premium.
KidsCare Information
Program for Those Previously Enrolled in DES Foster Care
If the child is under age 21 and was in Department of Economic Security (DES) Foster Care on the child's 18th birthday, the child may qualify for AHCCCS Health Insurance regardless of how much money the child has.
