Health Insurance for Adults without Children

Return to Categories

Due to the budget crisis in Arizona, the State "froze” new enrollment in the AHCCCS Care program for Childless Adults, beginning July 8, 2011. There are two exceptions where individuals will be moved to the Childress Adult program and continue their AHCCCS eligibility:

  • Beginning July 8, 2011, children who lose eligibility because they turn age 19 (or 21 for children in the YATI program) will be moved to AHCCCS Care and
  • Beginning April 23, 2013, and subject to available funding, parents or caretaker relatives who lose eligibility under the Families with Children (1931) program because they no longer have a dependent child in the home will be moved to AHCCCS Care.

This means that, except for the persons described above, no new applications for Childless Adults for the AHCCCS Care program will be accepted after July 7, 2011. However, you can still apply. DES will review your application first, to determine if you/your family may be eligible for AHCCCS Health Insurance in another program. If a Childless Adult appears eligible for AHCCCS for people with a disability, the application will be sent to the SSI MAO Office for a determination.

Childless Adults who are already on the AHCCCS Care program will still receive medical services from AHCCCS, but only as long as they stay eligible for AHCCCS

AHCCCS offers health insurance for adults without children. For those who qualify, there are no monthly premiums.
