KidsCare II History - Arizona's Temporary Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP)

On November 1, 2012, AHCCCS reopened enrollment in the KidsCare II program and all applications are being considered for eligibility. Eligibility requirements for KidsCare II remain the same. Additionally, children on the wait list that was started Sept 7, are being automatically enrolled into the program if they meet the eligibility requirements for KidsCare II and do NOT need to reapply at this time. AHCCCS will continue to consider all applications for KidsCare II until the program reaches maximum enrollment based on available funding. September 3, 2012
The KidsCare II program reached its funding capacity the week of September 3, 2012 and is frozen until further space becomes available. All applications will continue to be reviewed for Medicaid first and if it appears the applicant may be eligible for KidsCare or KidsCare II, the application will be placed on the wait list. Should additional space become available, the KidsCare Office will contact the applicant’s household.

August 24, 2012 As of August 17, 2012, there were 18,773 children approved for the KidsCare II program. Based on recent application and approval rates, AHCCCS anticipates the program will reach its funding capacity of 25,000 children sometime the week of September 3, 2012. At that time, the KidsCare II program will be frozen until further space becomes available. All applications will continue to be reviewed for Medicaid first and if it appears the applicant may be eligible for KidsCare or KidsCare II, the application will be placed on the wait list. Should additional space become available, the KidsCare Office will contact the applicant’s household. August 8, 2012
As of July 28, 2012, there were 13,674 children approved for the KidsCare II program. Although original projections estimated funding was available to cover about 21,700 children, due to lower than expected initial enrollment AHCCCS now estimates up to 25,000 total children can be covered in KidsCare II. AHCCCS anticipates this number will be reached by September. At that time, applicants will be placed on the wait list so they can be considered for KidsCare II as openings become available.

As of August 1, 2012, there were 1,604 applicants on the KidsCare wait list. This number has been updated to reflect only applicants between 175%-200% FPL who were added to the wait list after June 25, 2012, when the KidsCare II program was opened to all applicants. Anyone who was previously on the KidsCare wait list was sent a notice and had the opportunity to apply for KidsCare II. AHCCCS will continue to consider all applications for KidsCare II until the program reaches maximum enrollment based on available funding.

June 22, 2012
Beginning June 25, 2012, all applications will be considered for eligibility in the KidsCare II program. Children no longer need to be on the KidsCare waiting list. All other eligibility requirements for KidsCare II will remain the same. April 6, 2012
On April 6, 2012, CMS approved the new 2012 Waiver Amendment, which included funding for KidsCare II. KidsCare II provides coverage to a limited number of children who are currently on the KidsCare wait list, have income up to 175% of the federal poverty level (FPL), and meet other eligibility requirements.
