Subject: Removal of Interview as an Eligibility Requirement for the DES Medicaid Programs

Implementation Date: October 7, 2008

Effective 2/1/2008, an interview is no longer an eligibility requirement for the Medicaid programs for which eligibility is determined by the Department of Economic Security (DES). Instead, a "customer contact" will be made to obtain needed information.

Customer Contact is defined as a "contact with the customer in-person, by phone, electronically, or in writing" to:

• Obtain information
• Request verification
• Resolve discrepancies
• Resolve any other issues.

The following manual sections are revised to remove interview as an eligibility requirement for the indicated programs:

• 401.00 AHCCCS Care
• 406.00 Families with Children
• 410.00 Medical Expense Deduction (MED)
• 412.00 Pregnant Women
• 413.00 S.O.B.R.A. Child
• 418.00 Young Adult Transitional Insurance (YATI)
