Subject: Simplification of the Freedom to Work Renewal Process

Implementation Date: August 19, 2008

One of the DMS Goals for 2008 is to revise targeted policies and procedures to eliminate outdated or unnecessary requirements. Specifically, the Program Support Administration is reviewing the renewal processes for all programs to determine if unnecessary steps can be cut out.

With this transmittal we are making the following changes for Freedom to Work renewals:

• How a renewal is conducted is totally at the option of the local office. Renewals can be conducted:
  • By mail with the FTW-516; or ACE generated ALTCS renewal form.
  • Face to face or over the phone using the FTW Benefits Documentation form (FTW-641).
• It is no longer necessary to have the FTW-516 renewal form signed.
