Who is on the SMAC?
The 15-member committee is composed of six members of the public, six
health care providers or professionals, and three ex-officio members (the
AHCCCS, DHS, DES Directors or their designees). Members are appointed for
two-year terms. Appointments are made on a staggered basis with half the
public and professional/provider members completing their terms annually.
AHCCCS tries to maintain a balance in SMAC membership by ensuring that
acute care, ALTCS, and behavioral health program concerns are represented.
The agency also tries to maintain a balance among the six public members
of AHCCCS recipients and advocates and among the six health care
provider/professionals of physicians, facility administrators and other
providers.
